The Qatari-owned LPG tanker Al Rekayyat was abandoned after a fire in its engine room, and the Saudi-flagged oil tanker Wedyan was damaged by projectiles in the strait. The Joint Maritime Information Center cited both in raising its Strait of Hormuz threat level to severe.
Context
Abandoning a loaded gas carrier mid-strait is the outcome the whole convoy system exists to prevent, and it began the 48 hours that ended the interim deal.
