One day after the Hamas-led attack, Hezbollah fired missiles across the border; Israel answered with airstrikes and shelling, creating the low-intensity Lebanon front that later became central to the wider crisis.

Context

Lebanon is not a side issue in the current board. The cross-border front began immediately after Oct. 7 and became the lever that later pulled Iran, Israel, and U.S. diplomacy into the same problem.
