Event details

The head of the UN's International Maritime Organization said about 6,000 seafarers remain trapped around the Strait of Hormuz and condemned the latest U.S. and Iranian attacks for further delaying their evacuation. 'These reckless attacks have again placed innocent seafarers in grave danger. No seafarer should have to risk their life simply for doing their job,' Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez said.

Context

The human toll is now a live crisis of its own: thousands of stranded crews turn every strike near the strait into a potential mass-casualty event and pile international pressure on both sides to de-escalate.
