Trump keeps the ceasefire over but says talks continue

Part of Iran / Israel / U.S. / Lebanon / Energy crisis watch

PolicyReported

Event details

Speaking at a NATO summit in Ankara, Trump said the U.S. had agreed to keep talking with Iran while reiterating that the ceasefire was no longer in effect, and said he did not want a return to full war. He held off on new strikes that day but threatened to reinstate the naval blockade and hit Iran's electricity and water plants. The U.S. Treasury issued fresh sanctions, and U.S. forces had struck eastern Iranian cities including Iranshahr, Bandar Abbas, Konarak, Chabahar and Bushehr.

Context

Trump is running coercion and diplomacy at once, keeping the over label and infrastructure threats as leverage while leaving a talks door open, a posture that could force an Iranian concession or slide into the wider war he says he wants to avoid.
